Greenland's geological history spans almost 4 billion years of Earth's history and hosts many of the same mineral regimes as seen throughout the world's premier mining districts.
Among Greenland's diverse portfolio of minerals are several needed for the mineral intensive green transition and defined as critical by e.g., the EU and the USA.
At the beginning of 2023, Greenland's extraction sector comprises a mine for ruby and pink sapphire and a mine for the industrial mineral anorthosite. A number of other projects have been granted exploitation licence or are in advanced stages of exploration targeting molybdenum, graphite, nickel, copper, REE, feldspar, gold, titanium and olivine. It must also be noted that Greenland, being the world’s largest island, can likely be described as still being underexplored.
